  • Voice Carry-Over (VCO)
For individuals who can speak but have difficulty hearing. They speak directly to the other party and read responses typed by the relay operator.
  • Hearing Carry-Over (HCO)
For individuals who can hear but have difficulty speaking. They listen directly and type their responses for the relay operator to voice.
  • Speech-to-Speech (STS)
For individuals with speech disabilities who prefer to speak for themselves. Specially trained operators assist in relaying the conversation.
  • Standard Phone Users
Hearing individuals can also initiate calls to TTY users through the relay service.
  • Relay Support Service
Offers assistance with setting up and using relay services, including device compatibility and troubleshooting.
How TTY Relay Works:

1. Using your TTY, dial 711 or the toll-free number for your state..
2. The CA will answer by identifying the Relay and providing his/her CA number and gender. The CA will then type “NUMBER TO CALL PLS Q GA.”
3. Provide the area code and telephone number you want to call and any additional instructions.
4. Once the call is connected, the CA will ask the person you are calling if he/she is familiar with Relay. If the person is not, the CA will explain how Relay works before the conversation begins.
5. The CA will type everything said by the other party, word for word, along with any background noises.
6. When you see “GA,” it is your turn to respond. Type “GA” when you are ready for a response. The conversation will proceed in this manner until the call is complete.
7. When you have completed your side of the conversation, type “GA to SK” and the CA will close your call.
